Born on August 15, 1980, Wesley Wyse belongs to the Nanaimo Band in Vancouver Island, but has close ties to the Squamish Nation. Wes was taught by his stepfather, Coast Salish artist Joe Becker, and started to work with him in carving at age of 16. Wesley learned engraving techniques from established artist Kelvin Thompsion. He works with red and yellow cedar, glass, stone and also creates jewelry.
