Robert Cole is a member of Squamish Nation. In the early 1960’s when Robert was young, he watched his father, Bob Cole a master carver of his time, along with other well-known carvers such as Edmond Billy, Alec peters and Michael Yelton.
Observing their designs, he was inspired to do the same, having learned the ways of the Squamish and their unique style of carving. He would often sit and carve alongside his father who had orders for totem poles from around the world. After retirement from long-shoring, Robert took up carving again – this time focusing on canes and rattles. In the past, Robert has worked on paintings, totem poles and leather work with Squamish inspired design. What separates his carving s is his eye for the detail into each piece that distinguish him as Squamish carver.
