Fred Baker was born 1956 and grew up on the North Shore Capilano River
He is a member of the Squamish Nation and started carving when he was 8 years old.
His inspiration for becoming an artist was his father, the late Fred Baker Sr. He taught his brothers, George Baker, Teddy Baker and Billy Baker how to carve. He likes to use cedarwood and he used to draw when he was young. The type of art he likes to carve are totem poles, plaques, paddles, talking sticks,
and various other sculptures. Fred also sells his art at his home studio.
